Souren is an expressionist painter. Her primary artistic subject is the female form and her work encompasses strong watercolours, distinctive oils and acrylics. Her watercolours in particular delineate an honest and emotive journey to freedom. Each painting is both a story in itself and a chapter in her life. In her acrylic series she has reconnected with her cultural history at several levels; artistic, creative, scientific and historic. The touches of gold and red are added to reflect the on-going fight between good and bad, angels and demons. The gold is also representative of the sun whilst red represents lifeblood. Each of her oil paintings presents a different aspect of womanhood; a different aspect of the female persona; a different view of the woman that is Souren Mousavi. Her paintings are not just about where she has been but also about where she is going. Souren hopes that each painting will seize the imagination of her audience and bring them closer to her own life experiences as well as her often forgotten cultural heritage.
